Undergraduate Commencement – May 25, 2023
Graduation is on the horizon for the Class of 2023! The university's 236th undergraduate Commencement is scheduled for Thursday, May 25, 2023, at 10 a.m. on the Front Lawn of the main campus. The Baccalaureate Service is scheduled for Wednesday, May 24, 2023, at 10 a.m., also on the Front Lawn. Commencement ceremonies will be broadcast live on the web for those unable to attend.

The New York Times investigative reporters gave a public talk on Jan. 24 in Stackhouse Theater.
Irina Mazilu to Deliver Endowed Professorship Lecture
Mazilu’s talk “A Physics Journey from Complex Systems to Simple Models” will be held in Northen Auditorium on Jan. 25.
John Lysaker is the Next Speaker in the Mudd Lecture Series
Lysaker, a professor of philosophy at Emory University, will give a lecture on Jan. 30 at 5 p.m. The event will also be available online at livestream.com/wlu/mudd-lysaker.
W&L’s Campus Kitchen Hosts 11th Annual Souper Bowl
All proceeds from the Feb. 5 event will support the Campus Kitchen at W&L’s Backpack Program.
 
Washington and Lee Athletics
W&L offers 24 varsity sports, 12 for men and 12 for women. All sports compete at the NCAA Division III level, and most participate in the Old Dominion Athletic Conference (ODAC). The Generals winter athletic season continues to go well, including these results on Jan. 21:
  • Men's basketball team celebrated an Alumni Day victory with a 104-62 win against the University of Lynchburg.
  • Women's basketball also celebrated Alumni Day by defeating the University of Lynchburg, 91-71.
  • Women's track and field team wrapped up the two-day Finn Pincus Invitational with five top-8 finishes.
  • Wrestling team downed Averett University 28-6.

Lifelong Learning
W&L understands the importance of lifelong learning and offers a variety of programming to help satisfy your enduring curiosity about the world. Through Traveller, W&L's educational adventure program, participants will get to know and experience the world firsthand. Experience "Flavors of the Dordogne" with a trip to southwest France in May 2023. Learn more about the trip and how to book your spot here.
Through the Alumni College, we encourage you to benefit from the expertise of the W&L faculty by joining us for the 2023 Institute for Honor Symposium, "McDonald's vs. Putin: Corporate Responsibility in Times of Armed Conflict." The symposium, which will take place March 3-4, will feature a keynote address and two panel discussions that explore the responsibilities of a corporation or other businesses in wartime.
