Drawing on recent interdisciplinary scholarship in feminist, postcolonial and indigenous studies, Dr. Banu Subramaniam, professor of women's and gender studies at Wellesley College, will reflect on how gender, race, class, sexuality, and nation shape the foundational language, terminology, and theories of the modern plant sciences, and how botanical theories remain grounded in the violence of their colonial pasts.

Institute for Honor Symposium Keynote: Ambassador Ertharin Cousin

Ambassador Ertharin Cousin will deliver the keynote address for the 2025 Institute for Honor Symposium, titled “The Sustainable Transformation of our Global Food Systems: An Imperative for the Survival of Whom?” Ambassador Cousin currently serves as the managing director and CEO of Food Systems for Future Ventures and the CEO of the fund’s sister nonprofit, Food Systems for the Future Institute. Both organizations support her vision of a world without hunger and malnutrition. Cousin's address is free an open to the public.

W&L Salutes: Generations of Service
4:30 p.m. University Chapel
Alumni Engagement presents W&L Salutes: Generations of Service, a special weekend event on March 15-16. The W&L Salutes ceremony will take place on March 15 at 4:30 p.m. in the University Chapel. Associate Provost Paul Youngman and W&L President Will Dudley will offer opening remarks followed by a panel hosted by led by retired U.S. Army General Tony Ierardi ‘82. There is no cost for W&L faculty, staff and students. The weekend will close on March 16 with a wreath presentation and moment of reflection honoring the fallen at the Memorial Gate Plaza at 8 a.m.
