Power and Cooling System Interruption
Equipment replacement for the university's electrical grid will require a campus-wide power outage from 6 a.m. to 6 p.m. on June 2 while the university observes the Memorial Day holiday. The existing electrical switchgear has reached the end of its service life and requires replacement to ensure the continued reliability and safety of W&L's electrical system.
This infrastructure project is essential to maintain campus functionality and prevent any future power disruptions. University Facilities will work closely with Information Technology Services to minimize disruptions to IT systems and Public Safety to ensure campus security throughout the outage.
During this same time period, repairs to the central chilled water-cooling towers will require the campus cooling systems to be offline from 7 a.m. on May 31 until 1 p.m. on June 3.
Additionally, work on the campus utility infrastructure project will begin this summer. This initial phase will affect vehicle and pedestrian traffic on Washington Street.
Campus community members should expect that electrical and cooling systems in campus buildings will be back online by 1 p.m. on June 3. Please plan accordingly.
Questions or concerns about this infrastructure work may be directed to University Facilities at facilities@wlu.edu.
