April 2024

A Note from the Dean
Dear Colleagues:
The birds are chirping away today. Happy Spring!
Just a couple of quick announcements.
First, Rob Mish, Director of the Lenfest Center for the Arts, will be retiring in December 2024 after decades of service to the university. We are grateful for his contributions to the performing arts community of W&L. And we can now announce his successor, Jordan Peimer, former Executive Director of ArtsPower at University of California—San Diego. Jordan brings a fresh vision for programming and warm, empathetic leadership for the staff and the broader community. Please read more about Jordan here.
And, second, I am honored to announce that, upon my recommendation and with the approval of both Provost Hill and President Dudley, the following professors will be appointed to endowed chairs effective July 1, 2024. Lisa Greer (Redenbaugh Term Professorship), Mohamed Kamara (Boetsch Term Professorship), and Julie Woodzicka (Kenan Professorship). We look forward to all three presenting honorary lectures next year. Please join me in congratulating our colleagues!
We are approaching the end of Winter term and beginning to say farewell to our seniors. Thanks again for all that you do to support our students through your vibrant teaching, collaborative scholarship and creative work with students, and dedicated service to the university mission. Students, parents, and alumni always have a story to share about encounters with faculty and it is gratifying to know the positive and lasting impact you are having every day.
Best wishes,

Career Connections Faculty Working Group
The Dean of the College is seeking applications from faculty to participate in the Career Connections Faculty Working Group in Fall of 2024.  Successful applicants will receive a $500 stipend for participations and will meet together on a bi-weekly basis to identify skill sets (i.e., core competencies) central to their discipline. We know that students often struggle to articulate the skills they develop in the classroom, entering job searches and interviews without a clear sense of their training and abilities. While some skills have been identified by NACE, and include leadership, critical thinking, and equity and inclusion, there is a lot more that could be done within the disciplines to identify and explain the various competencies and abilities students gain in their field.
Applications are due by May 1st and can be found here. The application consists of four questions that require brief answers. More about the Faculty Working Group is available on the application, and faculty from the Arts and Humanities are especially encouraged to apply. If you have any questions, contact Genelle Gertz. Thanks for considering this opportunity!
