December 2023 (Part two!)

We'll Miss You Tim!
Many congratulations to our colleague, Tim Diette (Professor of Economics and Education Studies, and Executive Director of the Shepherd Higher Education Consortium on Poverty), who will begin a new job as Dean of Faculty at Hampden-Sydney College not too far away from us in Virginia. Read the announcement here.
In 2004, Tim arrived at W&L as a Visiting Assistant Professor of Economics after spending a few years as a financial analyst at Bank of America and Wachovia Bank. He joined the tenure track in 2006 and progressed steadily through the ranks. In honor of his achievements, during 2015-2018, Prof. Diette was named the Redenbaugh Term Associate Professor of Economics. He is a core member of Africana Studies, Education Studies, and the Shepherd Program.
In his almost two decades on campus, Tim served faithfully in many capacities, including: participating on countless department and university committees, and as acting head of Economics (2016-17), acting head of Shepherd (2020-21 and Fall 2023), associate dean of the Williams School (2017-18), and senior advisor to the president for strategic analysis (2018-21). In 2021, he took up the lead role of the Shepherd Higher Education Consortium on Poverty as executive director and revitalized the national organization.
We thank Tim for his many years of service to W&L and wish him great luck in his new position!
