Congratulations on bringing your Fall Term classes to a close! Whether this was your inaugural teaching experience at W&L or your 30th year, reaching the end of fall courses is an accomplishment worth celebrating. Teaching my first W&L class and meeting with departments has given me a richer, more nuanced sense of the College and reminded me of the crucial rapport we establish within our teaching, research, and service communities. Relationships with our students and colleagues provide a foundation for our work. |
Similarly, holiday gatherings with friends and family recall parallels between our professional and personal communities: we depend upon trust and understanding to safeguard our ability to learn and strive together with vigor and goodwill. |
As we anticipate a new term in which we will begin the process of revising our General Education program, continue examining non-tenure track faculty experiences, and clarifying Interdisciplinary Program structures, the strength of our relationships will provide the basis for our work. So, as you grade final assignments and consider all that students achieve in our instructional spaces, I hope you remember the many spaces throughout the College that facilitate our collaborative efforts to keep W&L moving forward. The festivities of the season bring well-deserved opportunities to celebrate the community necessary for our success as a faculty. |
I wish you a restful and refreshing holiday season. |
