March 2024

A Note from the Dean
Dear Colleagues,
Goodness, is it March already?! The light is returning to both ends of the day and there promises to warmth and budding in the coming days and weeks. Whew.
Join us for a talk or two...
Robin LeBlanc (Professor of Politics) will deliver the next Nobel Symposium Lecture on Friday, March 8 at 12:15 in the Harte Center. She will help us all understand the work of imprisoned Iranian human rights advocate Narges Mohammadi, who won the Nobel Peace prize.
Coming up on March 5 at 5pm in Stackhouse Theater, Jay Garfield (director of the Buddhist Studies program and Tibetan Studies in India program at Smith College and visiting professor of Buddhist philosophy at Harvard Divinity School) will deliver the Robert Root '42 Lecture. Learn more here.
Here at the half-way mark of the Winter term, I wish you great strength in grading midterms while also starting the great push to the end of the academic year. Thanks for all that you do to help us achieve the mission of W&L!
Best wishes,

Celebrating Women in Academia
You are invited to Gender Action Group's "Celebration of Women in Academia". For Women's History Month, GAG is hosting a series of events to celebrate the accomplishments of women and non-men, and to foster the community building. Professors of any gender identity are invited to celebrate and support their fellow professors and mingle with students! We wish to foster an inclusive and welcoming event that promotes conversation.
The dinner will take place on Thursday, March 7 at 5:00 pm in Commons 216. Napa Thai catering will be provided!
Please RSVP by emailing Emma Smith letting her know you plan to attend.
