OCTOBER 2021
A Note from the Dean
Dear colleagues,

I hope that the crisp air and changing leaves are bringing a cozy feel to your busy semester as we ease into a Fall Break. We have all been working very hard during a rough time on Earth, so while teaching takes a pause, please be sure to take a pause for self-care.

Also take note that midterm grades are due on Monday, October 25 for those new to W&L and for students who are on probation. For all your students and advisees, please make sure to guide them towards the academic and social support they may need. [See details here: https://hartectl.wlu.edu/student-resources/] At the ready are the class deans in Student Affairs (540-458-8754) and the Student Health Center (540-458-8401).

In future issues of this newsletter, we hope to spotlight faculty and staff colleagues who are celebrating achievements. Send in your brief nominations to ecoleman@wlu.edu.

Best wishes,
Chawne
FACULTY SPOTLIGHT
Fred LaRiviere, Associate Dean of the College, Academic Affairs and Associate Professor of Chemistry and Biochemistry
This month we'll spotlight Associate Professor of Chemistry and Associate Dean Fred LaRiviere. He is the go-to guy for academic administrative conundrums and has been a huge support in my own on-boarding. Whether you are proposing new courses or helping a student in need, you can count on Fred to assist you with the backing of instructional knowledge and infinite kindness.
