OCTOBER 2022
A Note from the Dean
Dear Colleagues,
Well, that chill is back in the air and after the remnants of Hurricane Ian passed through this weekend, there are many more yellowing leaves on the ground. I hope you enjoy sweater weather as much as I do!
We have been treated to two excellent endowed chair lectures already this term. In early September, Karla Murdock, the Jo M. and James M. Ballengee 250th Anniversary Professor of Cognitive and Behavioral Science, helped us see how she works to understand attention and gave us some advice on how to be more present in our lives for the sake of our wellbeing. Then just last week, Andrea Lepage, Pamela H. Simpson Professor of Art History,  told us about three Staniar Gallery exhibitions that buttressed her "borderlands arts pedagogy" in her courses. These exhibitions, mounted in collaboration with Clover Archer, celebrated Chicano art and supported emerging Latinx artists.
Five more colleagues will educate us about their work this year, in honor of their new endowed chairs:
-October 18, Genelle Gertz, Thomas H. Broadus Jr. Professor of English
-November 10, Rebecca Benefiel, Abigail Grigsby Urquhart Term Professor of Classics
-January 25, Irina Mazilu, Ruth Parmly Professor of Physics
-March 6, Edward Adams, John Lucian Smith, Jr. Term Professor of English
-Late March, Alan McRae, Cincinnati Professor of Mathematics
Please join us!
Best Wishes,
