The new academic year is officially underway! As we settle into the rhythm of fall term, it is exhilarating to contemplate all that awaits our students. Much of their success rests upon how effectively we communicate course material, expectations, and opportunities with them. |
The same is true when it comes to faculty success: communication is key. This faculty newsletter will appear on the first Friday of every month to improve communication in the College. It will announce important dates, celebrate faculty accomplishments, and include a brief "Note from the Dean." |
In addition to communicating through the newsletter, I look forward to having lunch in the Marketplace every Friday at noon, beginning this Friday the 13th. Do not let the ominous inaugural date dissuade you: join me for a Friday lunch! I will also meet with every department and program this year, and I thank you for allowing me to join a regularly scheduled meeting. |
Communication with our newest faculty members will be enhanced through a University-wide faculty mentoring program. We are delighted to welcome 8 new tenure track faculty, 16 new full-time visitors, and 5 new part-time faculty colleagues. Please encourage your new tenure track and non-tenure track faculty colleagues to participate in the teacher-scholar cohort for new faculty led by associate deans Fred LaRiviere, Elizabeth Oliver, and David Baluarte. |
Finally, we are thrilled to have Beth Lucy-Speidel join the College as the new administrative associate dean on September 23. We eagerly await her arrival from Cornell University and look forward to having a fully staffed office to support your work. |
Best wishes for a successful 2019-20 academic year! |
