February news and events for W&L alumni

Here's hoping for some snow in Lexington before spring arrives!
February 2023

A Note From Campus
Our students and alumni never cease to amaze me. For the fifth consecutive year, W&L has been included on the list of U.S. colleges and universities that produced the most 2022-2023 Fulbright U.S. students. In fact, we ranked number two in the baccalaureate category, our highest ever ranking. You can read more about the recipients and our director of fellowships, Matthew Loar '07, below. Under Loar's guidance, we have had multiple Gilman and Schwarzman scholars and are the only school our size with three Rhodes Scholars in the last decade. Again, W&L students and alumni are amazing!
Finally, congrats to my friend and classmate, Nathan Urquhart '01, on being selected as our new trustee!

A Correction from the Magazine
The most recent issue of the W&L Alumni Magazine erroneously included an obituary for William B. (Bill) Chappell, Jr. '94. We are happy to share that Bill is alive and well, and we sincerely regret the error and any confusion or concern it may have caused.
