A Note From Campus
Fall classes are underway, and campus is alive with the energy and excitement of a new academic year. Even now in my 11th year working at W&L, it is a feeling that never gets old! I was honored to have a hand in welcoming the Class of 2026 during the First-Year BBQ – a fun evening at the Ruins, complete with music by our own Burr Datz '75.
Our fall athletics teams are on a roll, with several wins just two weeks into the season. Check the athletics calendar for opportunities to cheer on the Generals near you.
You should have recently received the latest issue of W&L Magazine. Among the many great features, I especially enjoyed reading the two Alumni in Action stories below, featuring Jim Lawson '77 and Niquole Esters '04.
Keep reading below for these and other updates from campus and beyond.

Jim Lawson ’77 believes that the skills developed through a liberal arts education, such as problem-solving, creative thinking and leadership, create well-rounded professionals who thrive in the corporate setting.

‘Save the Whales’
Niquole Esters ’04 has spent more than 15 years working to protect the environment and ocean habitats through her career with Conservation International. Moreover, she is one of only a few women of color in a leadership position in what has typically been a male-dominated field.
