A Note From Campus
The university is excited to host Alumni Volunteer Weekend on Sept. 22-23. Some of our key alumni volunteers will be on campus to learn about our ongoing engagement and stewardship efforts. We will also seek their valuable input as we start the academic year. If you want to learn more about the many ways you can serve as a volunteer for your alma mater, please let me know. We are always looking for dedicated alumni to help support the university's mission.
I also want to remind you that the Alumni Association Board of Directors (Alumni Board) is seeking nominations from all alumni for consideration to be one of three candidates on an alumni ballot for election to W&L's Board of Trustees. For the current election cycle, nominations must be submitted by 11:59 p.m. Oct. 6, 2023. We appreciate your interest and participation in this important process for the university.

Reflecting on Rankings
Washington and Lee enjoys an outstanding reputation. We reliably fall in the top 20, and quite often in the top 10, of every reasonably credible national ranking of liberal arts colleges. But the proliferation of rankings and their incessant changes in methodology have bred confusion rather than enlightenment. What does W&L regard as most important, and how do we measure it?
