A variety of events and lectures are planned for this year’s observance of MLK day.

Ulmer previously worked as director for the Office of Student Conduct and Academic Integrity at Old Dominion University.
Maria Saez Tatman Joins W&L Law as Associate Dean of Student Affairs
In her role, Saez Tatman will develop and implement programs to enrich the law school experience and to help law students succeed in school, personally, and professionally.
Irina Mazilu to Deliver Endowed Professorship Lecture
Mazilu’s talk “A Physics Journey from Complex Systems to Simple Models” will be held in Northen Auditorium on Jan. 25.
W&L’s Staniar Gallery Presents ‘Futile State’
The solo exhibition by sculptor Sam Blanchard is on view until Feb. 8.

Melanie Wilson to Serve as President-Elect of AALS
The AALS House of Representatives voted to accept Wilson’s nomination as the 2023 President-elect. Wilson has served the AALS in numerous capacities, including membership on its Executive Committee since 2020.

W&L Visiting Assistant Professor John Cataldi Publishes Book
“Practical Symbolic Interactions in the Shrine of the South: Conversations with a Damn Yankee” is set to be released on Jan. 15.

Fieldside's “New Leaf” Vegetarian Menu
Did you know that Fieldside has launched an exclusively vegetarian menu with incredibly flavorful and fresh ingredients? This "New Leaf" menu is timed and named as a nod to new year's resolutions. Many have used this time of year to focus on making healthier choices as they turn over a new leaf for the new year. W&L dining services is offering all employees a Fieldside New Leaf build-your-own entree bowl for the LiveWell "salad bar price" of $5.50 (regular price is $9.50) for the week of January 23-29. This can also earn you a LiveWell token! Please be aware this menu is only served during the dinner hours of 5-9 p.m.

Children's Celebration in honor of Dr. King's Birthday
11 a.m.-1 p.m. Evans Dining Hall
Children of the Lexington and Rockbridge County community are invited to attend a birthday celebration in honor of Dr. King. There will be games, face painting, and arts and crafts. On top of the celebration, we will be making doggy treats to donate to the SPCA. Cake, snacks and punch will be provided.

Join the W&L Tea Society in honoring the legacy of Reverend Martin Luther King Jr. with a tea ceremony demonstration. There are three 30-minute sessions limited to 20 participants each.

The MLK Reflections event allows community members to gather to reflect on the lessons of Dr. King's life and work. This event is open to the public and a meal will be provided.

BirdieLight spreads awareness around the dangers of Fentanyl in drugs and distributes tools to prevent overdose so you have the power to save your own life. Presented by Contact Committee, Kappa Alpha Theta Sorority, Washingtonian Society and W&L Health Promotion.

Associate Professor Jeffrey Schatten will give an introduction to artificial intelligence tools such as ChatGPT. Participants will have a brief opportunity to explore the software and the session will end with a discussion of the implications of AI and ChatGPT.
