Welcome Back to Campus
I hope each of you enjoyed relaxing time with friends and family over the winter break. In December I shared some highlights from 2023, noting how much we have to celebrate here at Washington and Lee.  We have more to look forward to in the coming term.

Freda Coleman-Jackson has been named Interim Assistant Dean of Career Strategy, taking over for Cliff Jarrett '91L, who departs the law school this month.

MLK Children's Birthday Party Celebration
11 a.m.-1 p.m. Evans Hall
Children of the Lexington and Rockbridge County community are invited to attend a birthday celebration in honor of Dr. King. There will be games, face painting, and arts and crafts. As part of the celebration, attendees will be making gift bags to donate to local organizations. This activity is appropriate for people of all ages interested in a community service project. Cake, snacks and punch will be provided.

MLK Tea Ceremony
1 p.m., 1:45 p.m., 2:30 p.m. Tea Room
Join the W&L Tea Society in honoring the legacy of Dr. King with a tea ceremony demonstration. There are three 30-minute sessions limited to 20 participants. Registration is required.

W&L will host Keisha Lance Bottoms as she presents her remarks as the featured speaker for our 2024 MLK Week celebration. Stay after the event for a reception.

Reflections on the Life and Legacy of Dr. Martin Luther King Jr.

The MLK Reflections event allows community members to gather to reflect on the lessons of Dr. King's life and work. This event is open to the public, and a meal will be provided.

DeLaney Center's Screen to Square - “Till”
5 p.m. Stackhouse Theater
As part of W&L's MLK Week celebration, the DeLaney Center will screen the film ”Till,“ a movie that explores how Mamie Till-Mobley relentlessly sought justice after her son’s death. Afterwards, panelists including W&L Law School Professor Maureen Edobor will propel us into a rich conversation. The event is free and open to the public, and refreshments will be served.

The Antioch Chamber Ensemble makes its third appearance in Wilson Concert Hall for an evening of choral music.

MLK Remembrance Concert
7 p.m. Wilson Concert Hall/Lenfest Center
The concert honors the life and legacy of Rev. Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. Back for the first time since before the COVID-19 pandemic, the performance will feature readings of speeches and poems by King, Maya Angelou, Langston Hughes and others, interspersed with musical reflections performed by W&L’s University Singers, Glee Club and Cantatrici. The performance is free and open to the public.
