Law and Literature Seminar: Take My Hand |
|
Faculty and staff are invited to attend Lifelong Learning's Law & Literature Seminar on Nov. 1-2. We'll consider issues of medical ethics, informed consent, reproductive rights, eugenics and more within the scope of Dolen Perkins-Valdez's novel, "Take My Hand." The book is a fictionalized account of the events behind a federally funded program that led to the sterilization of over 100,000 women, most of whom were poor and Black or Latina. The seminar will be guided by Allison Weiss, professor of practice at W&L's School of Law. She will be joined by Professors Beth Belmont and Maureen Edobor of W&L School of Law; Professor Michael Hill, director of the DeLaney Center and chair of Africana Studies at W&L; and Professor David S. Caudill of Villanova University School of Law as we consider this outstanding novel. Lectures on Friday and Saturday are open and complimentary for the campus community. If you are interested in attending the reception and catered meals, please contact our office at lifelong@wlu.edu to register. |
