An update from President Dudley
Washington and Lee is a remarkable place, and 2023 gave us many reasons to celebrate. We continue to attract exceptionally talented students, our faculty provide them with an outstanding education, and they enjoy excellent post-graduate opportunities. Here are just a few highlights.

Keisha Lance Bottoms to Keynote W&L’s 2024 MLK Celebration
Bottoms, the former mayor of Atlanta, will headline the weeklong programming on campus.
 
Reminder - Greek Life Recruitment Begins Jan. 8
The Panhellenic Formal Recruitment process will occur Jan. 8-10 and Jan. 13-14, and the Interfraternity Council (IFC) Formal Recruitment Process will take place Jan. 8-11. All students may move back to campus beginning Jan. 6. More details can be found on W&L's Greek Life page.
The National Pan-Hellenic Council (NPHC) organizations hold Member Intake Processes at different times depending on interest and approval from their national headquarters. Students interested in joining an NPHC organization can contact Heidi Bustos, assistant director of inclusion and engagement, at hbustos@wlu.edu.
 
Washington and Lee Athletics
Washington and Lee University is a proud member of NCAA Division III and the Old Dominion Athletic Conference. With more than 500 student-athletes in 24 varsity sports, the Generals have celebrated over 265 conference championships in school history. The fall season concluded Dec. 1 and was punctuated with a national semifinalist appearance by the men's soccer team. Across all sports this fall, the Generals finished with a 69-29-10 overall record and won 36 conference contests. The women's basketball team is off to the best start in program history at 8-1 and is nationally ranked. The winter sports have paused for finals and the holidays, and will return to Lexington on Dec. 29. Lifelong Learning for W&L Parents
Western Europe’s Historic Coastal Cities and Art Centers
Join Elliott King, associate professor of art history, on a 12-day trip to explore western Europe’s historic coastal cities and art centers. This summer voyage from Amsterdam to Lisbon will follow the route of explorers, conquerors, merchants, pilgrims and artists.
 
2024 Institute for Honor Symposium
The 2024 IFH symposium will explore a range of ethical considerations, from pharmaceutical company culpability to physician prescribing practices. The symposium will feature expert panel discussions and a keynote address from journalist Beth Macy.

Martin Luther King Jr. Day will be observed Monday, Jan. 15. Monday classes will meet on Friday, Jan. 19.

Washington Break (no classes)
Washington Break is Feb. 26 through March 1. Classes will resume Monday, March 4.
04-13
Final Examinations
Final examinations begin April 13 and end April 19. The last day of Winter Term classes is April 12.

First Day of Spring Term
Spring Term classes begin April 29. Add/drop ends at midnight on April 30.
05-30
Commencement
The 237th undergraduate commencement is scheduled for May 30 on the Front Lawn of the main campus. The Baccalaureate Service is scheduled for May 29.
