The W&L Family Connection is distributed each month and complements other university channels to help keep parents and families informed about life on campus. Update from the Office of Residence Life
Important Housing Dates for Fall Term 2022
W&L has established Fall Term move-in dates for residential students in university housing, including Gaines, Graham-Lees, Woods Creek Apartments, the Village, theme houses and fraternity/sorority houses. Any changes to this move-in information will be communicated directly to students and updated on the Office of Residence Life website.
Fall sport athletes and students serving in certain leadership positions may request early arrival and should check with their coach and/or organizational advisors. All other early arrival requests are reviewed on a case-by-case basis for extenuating circumstances only. To request early arrival based on an extenuating circumstance, students should complete the "Early Arrival Request" form via go.wlu.edu/erezlife no later than Aug. 1, 2022.
Aug. 19–21: Arrival for International Students
• Aug. 22–28: International Student Orientation – General information and common questions and answers for international students related to orientation and arriving at W&L.
Aug. 28: Move-in for first-year students participating in Leading Edge
• 9 a.m.–12 p.m.: Participants in Appalachian Adventure / Sustainability, Washington Street Park
• 12–3 p.m.: Participants in Archaeology / Around the World / Beyond LEADership / Freedom Ride / Making Meaning / Volunteer Venture, Washington Street Park
• Leading Edge participants will receive specific instructions regarding arrival time, respective trips, meals and other pertinent move-in details. For questions about Leading Edge, please contact Kim Hodge (Assistant Dean of Students).
Sept. 3: University housing opens for all undergraduate students
• 9 a.m.-12 p.m.: Move-in for remaining first-year students, Washington Street Park
• 8 a.m.-4 p.m.: Move-in for rising sophomores (Class of 2025), rising juniors (Class of 2024) and on-campus seniors (Class of 2023). Residence Life will email upper-division students with specific check-in instructions in the weeks ahead.

In-Person Orientation for Parents of New Students
An in-person orientation for parents of new students will be held on campus at the Lenfest Center from 3 to 5 p.m. on Sunday, Aug. 28 and from 3 to 5 p.m. on Saturday, Sept. 3. Both sessions are identical and optional.
• 3 p.m. – President's Welcome to Parents – Lenfest Center, Keller Theater
• 3:20 p.m. – Academic Panel for Parents – Lenfest Center, Keller Theater
• 4 p.m. – Student Affairs Panel for Parents – Lenfest Center, Keller Theater

W&L's Contact Committee Presents Journalist Bob Woodward for Parents and Family Weekend Event
Woodward is the associate editor of The Washington Post, where he has worked since 1971.
Mock Convention Welcomes Former First Lady Laura Bush and Daughter Barbara Pierce Bush on Sept. 30
Hosted during Parents and Family Weekend, the Sept. 30 event will launch activities for the 28th Mock Convention.
 
Washington and Lee Athletics
W&L offers 24 varsity sports, 12 for men and 12 for women. All sports compete at the NCAA Division III level, and most participate in the Old Dominion Athletic Conference (ODAC). The ODAC recently released its 2021-22 All-Academic Team, and Washington and Lee once again led the league in number of athletes honored. The Generals totaled 451 of the 2,505 All-Academic Team members named from the 15 member institutions. The Blue and White compiled a 218-76-4 (.738) overall record during the 2021-22 school year, claiming 11 conference championships.

Lifelong Learning
Washington and Lee University operates one of the most respected arrays of lifelong learning and educational tour programs in the nation. The program offers various options for participation and provides a wide array of activities that inspire taking learning to the next level. For the at-home learner, W&L offers several virtual classroom experiences, including webinars on current issues, a series of podcast interviews with university faculty, a virtual book club and much more.
