The W&L Family Connection is distributed each month and complements other university channels to help keep parents and families informed about life on campus. Important Housing Details from the Office of Residence Life
The start of the 2024-2025 academic year is approaching quickly, and with that comes important move-in information for residential students in university housing, including Gaines, Graham-Lees, Woods Creek Apartments, the village, theme and fraternity/sorority houses. Any changes to this move-in information will be communicated directly to students and updated on the Office of Residence Life website.
Aug. 16-17 — International Move-In
The Center for International Education and International Student Orientation Leaders will help with the arrival for all international students. Students should make sure they have joined the WhatsApp group. International Orientation will run from Aug. 18-24. General information and orientation schedule can be found on the Center for International Education website.
Aug. 24 — Class of 2028 (First-Year) Move-In Day 
  • 9 a.m.-1 p.m. — First-year students will be assigned a specific move-in time slot and will receive other updates regarding move-in preparations and instructions to their WLU email. Fall athletes may be pre-approved to arrive earlier than this date — your student should check with their coach and/or adviser if they have an earlier move-in date approved by the Office of Residence Life.
  • 3-4 p.m. — Leading Edge check-in. For questions about Leading Edge, please contact Kim Hodge, assistant dean of students.
Aug. 25-30 — Leading Edge Trips
New student orientation continues until Wednesday, Sept. 4. Check the Class of 2028 Orientation Schedule for daily details.
Aug. 30-31 — Upper-Division Student Move-In
All upper-division students, including transfer students, not approved for early arrival may move in on these days. There will be a check-in table at the Office of Public Safety both of these days. Students will receive an email in August with more information about check-in. All upper-division students are required to check in and receive a room key. Students arriving after the check-in station is closed or after Aug. 31 must check in with and retrieve their key from Public Safety dispatch. Parent Orientation Schedule
An orientation for parents of new students will be held from 3-5 p.m. on Saturday, Aug. 24, in the Lenfest Center. Attendance is optional.
3 p.m. — President's welcome to parents, Keller Theatre
3:20 p.m. — Academic panel for parents, Keller Theatre
4 p.m. — Student Affairs panel for parents, Keller Theatre
4:40 p.m. — Student Affairs Q&A, Kamen Gallery

Washington and Lee Athletics
Washington and Lee University offers 24 varsity programs, equally divided between men's and women's sports. Competing in NCAA Division III and the Old Dominion Athletic Conference (ODAC), the Generals led the league with a record 537 athletes named to the 2023-24 All-Academic Team out of 3,175 total members from 17 institutions and claimed eight conference championships last academic year.
