Washington and Lee Athletics News
  • The Old Dominion Athletic Conference announced that Washington and Lee earned all three of the ODAC Commissioner's Cups with the Generals collecting their 22nd-straight Dan Wooldridge Overall Champions Cup and a 21st-consecutive ODAC Women's Commissioner's Cup prize. The Generals reclaimed the ODAC Men's Commissioner's Cup after the University of Lynchburg took it home in 2022-23.
  • The Department of Athletics held its annual Brookby Family Athletics Awards Ceremony last week. Headlining the award recipients were seniors Hanna Bishop (Bronxville, New York) and Robert DiSibio (Sandy Hook, Connecticut). The pair received the "Pres" Brown Outstanding Senior Women's Sport and Senior Men's Sport Athletes of the Year awards, respectively.
  • W&L wins their 14th consecutive ODAC championship after their 11-10 victory over Roanoke College.The women's golf team is slated to participate in the NCAA Championships May 21-24 in Lexington, Kentucky.
  • Seven members of the women's track and field team were named U.S. Track & Field and Cross Country Coaches Association all-region selections following their performances during the outdoor season: Elise Molinaro '24, Ashley D'Ambrosia '25, Amanda Romano '25, Quinlin Zunk '25, Brianna Breyault '26, Bailey Hedgemon '26 and Camille Gillum '26. D'Ambrosia qualified for the national championships in the pole vault and will compete on May 23 as the first women's pole vaulter in program history to qualify for the national meet.
  • First-year javelin thrower George Mann qualified for the 2024 Outdoor Track and Field NCAA Division III Championships on May 23. The men's track and field team took second place at the ODAC Championships, and five student-athletes were named all-region for the outdoor season: Adam Roy '24, George Marable '25, Danny Jakubowski-Lewis '26, Will Knight '26 and George Mann '27.
  • The 2024 ODAC Women's Tennis Champions' season ended in the round of 16, but a pair of Generals, Gabi Moss '24 and Lauren Long '26, both qualified for the DIII Women's Tennis Singles Championship, which will begin on Saturday, May 25.
  • The men's golf team finished the NCAA Championships tied for sixth place, and rookie Jonathan McEwen was named the DIII Phil Mickelson Outstanding Freshman award-winner and first-team All-America.
  • The men's lacrosse team advanced to the NCAA Tournament Final Four for the first time since 2002 after upsetting the top-ranked Salisbury Sea Gulls in overtime during the quarterfinals. The Generals fell to Tufts, 19-13, in the semifinal round.
  • The seventh-ranked women's lacrosse team advanced to the NCAA Regional Championships for the third time in program history but fell to No. 5 Salisbury 12-8. The class of 2024 concluded their careers at W&L with a 70-10 record, making them the winningest class in program history with four ODAC championships and four Sweet 16 and two Elite 8 appearances.
  • The men's tennis squad claimed their 14th-straight ODAC title and wrapped up team slate in the NCAA Tournament with a 5-2 loss against Sewanee in the Round of 32. Evan Erb '25 and Coach David Detwiler earned top honors as the conference's player and coach of the year, respectively. The Generals claimed nine postseason awards from the ODAC.
  • The baseball team landed three players on the All-ODAC postseason selections with Campbell Charneco '25 being named first-team All-ODAC catcher. Evan Blair '25 and Ben Sundell '26 claimed third-team All-ODAC honors from the mound.
  • Allison Hines '25 competed at the Intercollegiate Horse Shows Association (IHSA) National Championships on May 3 and was tabbed with honorable mention status in the intermediate over fences equitation event.
