The university's varsity sports season is back, and teams are off to a roaring start. The volleyball team has opened with a 14-0 record and is now No. 23 in the American Volleyball Coaches Association rankings, while the women's soccer team has won four straight games in shutout fashion to crack the United Soccer Coaches Top 25 rankings at No. 24. Field hockey has won five of its first seven games; men's soccer has won three straight to get back to 4-3, and football earned a 68-28 win over Newport News Apprentice School during Young Alumni Weekend. |
Men's cross country has two top-three finishes in three events; the women have been top two in both of their races, including a win at Bridgewater to open the season. Women's tennis first-year Allie Murrell finished as a semifinalist at the ITA Southeast Region Championships in both the singles and doubles draw with partner and classmate Mary Kate Kahl, while men's tennis opened their season with a win over Randolph-Macon. Finally, both golf teams kicked off their fall seasons, as the 13th-ranked women placed fifth at the MCC Women's Collegiate, and the men, ranked No. 7, came in fourth at the NCAA Championship Preview. |
