Parents and Family Weekend: Oct. 4-6
W&L will host the 70th annual celebration of Parents & Family Weekend Oct. 4-6, honoring the families of W&L students. The weekend will combine informational and recreational activities, giving family members the opportunity to meet with faculty members, see campus life and participate in social events. Be sure to check out the full schedule of events. While online registration has closed, stop by the registration table in the Evans Hall lobby when you arrive on campus to register in person.

Washington and Lee Welcomes the Class of 2028
Hailing from 40 states and 31 countries, the class of 2028 emerged from the most selective process in the university’s undergraduate history.
Margaret Anne Hinkle Awarded a Collaborative Grant from the National Science Foundation
The assistant professor of earth and environmental geoscience at W&L and fellow scientists from the University of Pittsburgh will share the $550,000 award to examine the potential of adapting acid mine drainage remediation systems to produce critical minerals in economically viable concentrations.
Late Summer Update on Campus Construction Projects
The Marketplace extension, which includes additional seating at the Marketplace and on the outdoor terrace at Café 77, is now open to the public. All campus construction projects remain on schedule.
W&L Sets Location for Institutional History Museum
The museum will complement existing historical exhibit spaces in the University Chapel Galleries and the Washington Hall Galleries, with modern exhibitions, comprehensive interpretation and engaging programs that educate and inspire visitors to reflect on Washington and Lee University’s history and its place in the history of the nation.
Legacy of Outdoor Exploration
The Matelich Endowment enhances Outing Club experiences for the many W&L students who participate in excursions each year, including sunset hikes on House Mountain and kayaking on the Maury River.
W&L Army ROTC Student Earns Prestigious Award While Completing Basic Training
Kylee Cross ’27 received the Soldier Leader of the Cycle Award at her basic training graduation ceremony on Aug. 1 for her performance in the Army Combat Fitness Test, basic rifle marksmanship and leadership skills.

This academic year’s lineup of exhibits and events will highlight the university’s Reeves Museum of Ceramics and the Watson Galleries.

Solo Exhibitions Launch Staniar Gallery Fall Season
Liz Liguori’s "Where We Meet" and Bridget Conn’s "Foveal Relay" will both run through Oct. 18.
 
Washington and Lee Athletics
The university's varsity sports season is back, and teams are off to a roaring start. The volleyball team has opened with a 14-0 record and is now No. 23 in the American Volleyball Coaches Association rankings, while the women's soccer team has won four straight games in shutout fashion to crack the United Soccer Coaches Top 25 rankings at No. 24. Field hockey has won five of its first seven games; men's soccer has won three straight to get back to 4-3, and football earned a 68-28 win over Newport News Apprentice School during Young Alumni Weekend.
Men's cross country has two top-three finishes in three events; the women have been top two in both of their races, including a win at Bridgewater to open the season. Women's tennis first-year Allie Murrell finished as a semifinalist at the ITA Southeast Region Championships in both the singles and doubles draw with partner and classmate Mary Kate Kahl, while men's tennis opened their season with a win over Randolph-Macon. Finally, both golf teams kicked off their fall seasons, as the 13th-ranked women placed fifth at the MCC Women's Collegiate, and the men, ranked No. 7, came in fourth at the NCAA Championship Preview.

Deadline for students to submit  their application via the Off-Campus Portal (click the "apply now" button under each course listing). Oct. 21 is also the financial aid deadline. If students would like to be considered for a need-based grant for their program, they must have a complete need-based aid application for the current academic year on file with the Office of Financial Aid.
